Online Remittances for Online Home Businesses

One of the concerns of most online home businesses is the security of payment transactions. I manage an online home business and the first few months of operations have been characterized with experiments with a few online remittances. It was not an easy ride and caused me a few dollars of un-cashed pay from several online remittances that required a few things that I did not have. I am not a big fan of credit cards and I do not plan to apply for one in the near future. I do not believe nor will not, in this kind of leveraging.

One of the most trusted online remittances I have come across with is XOOM. I cannot however comment on the payer part since I only use this online remittance to receive payments. What I like with xoom though is that I can cash out my payments just a few hours after my client deposits the money unlike other online remittances that requires a few days to transfer funds.

Another form of remittance that I use, [only locally though] is Gcash. One of the programs of a big telecommunications company in my country, Gcash allows me to conveniently receive and transfer currency through my mobile phone. Gcash is also partners with my local bank so I can transfer funds to and from my bank account through my mobile phone any time of the day or any place I am in as long as mobile reception is available. This allows me more time to write at home and not waste time going to the bank to transfer or withdraw funds.

Looking for the right online remittance for an online home business is never easy. It will take a few un-cashed currency and time to find the right one, but eventually you will find the right one. These two I mentioned are my trusted ones, however, these may not work for every online home business. The criteria that should be set in looking for online remittances for any online home businesses are convenience, accessibility and fees. With the right combination of these three, you will be assured of succesful and safe transactions everytime.

Protect Your Articles

One of the most irritating issues that copywriters come across with almost on a daily basis is plagiarism. Even if you create original content and post it on your site or blog and someday pass it off to some editor as a sample copy, there will be instances when that original article will come out with many hits on a plagiarism software(not including your site). And nothing irritates a copywriter more than being branded as a plagiarist.

One way of protecting articles from being duplicated or copied is by putting them through anti-plagiarism software such as copyscape.com. For a small fee, your original articles will be protected from being copied and will branded as original based on the "scan" it performs for submitted URLs that the articles are on.

The only danger though is that if you use copyscape to protect articles that you intend to sell, the method can sometimes get back at you. Using copyscape requires that you upload the articles on a website or to your blog so you can have it "scanned". And if you don't work fast enough and Google indexes (Google does this process very fast) your site before you are done with the process, the articles will still come out of searches even if you remove them from your blog or site. Eventually, your client will think its still a duplicate of some article published online.

But despite this small problem which happens only in very few instances, these kind of software or websites really do help copywriters protect their work from the very persons that they are sometimes irritatingly accused of being so.

My New HP Tx1000 Notebook

Dubbed as the two-in-one entertainment and work notebook, the HP Tx1000 surely delivers what it promises to be. I've been using this notebook for over a month now and I must say its performance surpasses my expectations.

I waited for a month to write a review about my new notebook since I did not want to write pre-mature impressions that would have eventually changed over time. One impression that did not change though is how the notebook's physical appearance appeals to me. The HP Tx1000 is set in a glossy black cover with silver inlaid finish. The swirling silver lines seen on the notebook's cover gives it a more friendly look compared to the usual all black or silver finished notebooks that suggests a business and serious outlook. All in all, the HP Tx1000 looks like a high-end and stylish yet user-friendly notebook.

Tablet PC

Another notable physical feature of the HP Tx1000 is the rotating screen. It can be converted into a Tablet PC by turning the screen 180 degrees clockwise and folding it flat against the keyboard. The screen orientation automatically changes so that I can carry the notebook in my arm in an upright vertical position. However, I can easily change the screen orientation by just pushing a button located at the side of the screen. The button is very useful especially if I want to watch movies on my notebook and for left handed persons too.

The HP Tx1000 uses a touch screen aside from an active stylus screen which is preferable if I loose my pen. My niece was first to find out about this feature when she tried to use her nails to click on an icon. A Tablet PC is supposed to function like pen and paper but the only way I can do this on my HP Tx1000 is by writing very slowly than usual. I abandoned using this feature since I don't really need to write on it. However, if you are looking for a really functional Tablet PC perhaps you should try if the HP Tx1000 will work for you.

Specifications and Features

The HP Tx1000 proudly uses the 64-bit AMD Turion Dual Core T-60 processor otherwise known as the AMD Turion 64x2 Mobile Technology. I don't know much about processors but I do know that I am using one of the high-end processors available on the market, plus I've tested my notebook for a whole month so I know what they all say about its performance is true.

The HP Tx1000 is very handy and easy to carry but it does sacrifice its screen size and image quality. The 12-inch screen has an average image quality compared to other high-end laptop displays. However, I am pretty comfortable just the way it is. I can watch DVD movies on it without being annoyed with the screen size. I guess one reason I don't complain is because of the NVidia GeForce 6150 graphics chip that the HP Tx1000 carries. It allows me to watch DVDs without any trouble at all. However, my notebook does have an expansion port that can be used for high-end video cards.

The sound quality of my notebook is also acceptable for my specifications. It has two Altec Lansing speakers attached to the screen that provides me with enough clarity and volume for movie watching or listening to music. The location of the speakers is also a plus so the sound goes directly in my direction whenever I use the notebook in Tablet mode. The notebook also amazingly has two headphone jacks so two persons can listen at the same time without sharing ear phones.

Also among the HP tx1000's features is a built in 1.3 megapixel camera which proves to be very useful for me. I can easily hold video conferences with my friends, clients and especially with family without having to deal with messy wires that comes with external webcams. But like most webcams, the resolution do suffers during low lighting conditions. In addition to its features are the control buttons that have been successfully reduced to match its size. The keyboard however is full-sized save for the right SHIFT key which was a little annoying at first. It is just as small as most of the keys compared to the usual rectangular shape. But over time, I guess I just got used to its size. The touch pad also features an unusual design that I think would work just fine for me. With my old HP laptop, I had to use an external mouse, but with my new Tx1000, I'm going to stick with the touchpad. It is made up of depressed dots with a separate set of dots for scrolling. And lastly, my notebook amazingly has a remote control for its DVD-RW (yes, its a removable RW drive with lightscribe!) drive.

All theses features though are conveniently incorporated into the notebook that it remains amazingly lightweight. In fact, I can just carry it around on my arm unlike my old HP laptop. Its dimensions is 1.5"H x 12"W x 8.75"D and is only more or less 5 pounds.

Powersupply and Heat

My HP Tx1000 came with two batteries so I can use it for a whole day without charging. I use a 4-cell and a 6-cell battery. The latter type is much bigger and extends over the back for a full inch but I don't mind since it gives me more time on my notebook.

There are two exhaust vents on the upper right corner of the HP Tx1000 that really works to cool the notebook down. I use my notebook for long hours and I have no complain for its performance. My only complain though is that the area gets too warm so I can't put the notebook on my lap. However, if it's in Tablet mode and I carry it around on my arm, the heat is not a problem. The internal fans automatically turns on and off to adjust to my usage. During heavy use, I actually hear the fans but the sound does not distract me. It guess I could say that the notebook keeps its noise in a non-distracting level.

Overall, my HP Tx1000 just matches my usage. I can conveniently use it for both work and entertainment. Its look also just matches the outlook I want to project-a writer with the right gadgets and one with a serious yet friendly outlook.

Why Gas Prices Are So High and What to Do About It

By John F Smith

Oil used to be a cheap consumer product. The series of oil discoveries in the Middle East during the 50's and 60's contributed a lot to the notion that crude oil, the root product of gasoline we use in cars today, will stay unlimited for eternity. Then there happens a turnaround when the realization that with the ongoing world consumption of crude oil and its by-products, the deposits of oil being drilled in deserts and oceans could not sustain the unquenchable demand for this product. Basic law of economics runs in accordance with the fact of supply and demand for crude oil. Since there is a huge demand in the market for this 'basic' product, the price on one of its by-product like gasoline gets a hike that is almost out of reach by the common consumer.

The fact that the sources of crude oil will be depleted sooner than we can imagine, the rise of prices like that of gasoline will not be abated in any coming future. This is the reason why there are many research and innovations being undertaken by scientist for alternatives to this product.

But while the work of scientists still has to produce a definite replacement for gasoline to run our cars and automotive, there are several wise tips available for the public to lessen the burden of rising gasoline expenses on their part.

Car Pooling

This method has been in practice decades ago in the sole purpose of defeating the wasteful practice of using gallons of gasoline when lesser could be enough when going to and from the work place. A community can form their own small group to plan and design a scheme where this method can be maximized to its full potential.

When there is no need to go out, just stay home

For some families, it is already a lifestyle to go out during weekends to faraway parks and spend their days there. While this is a wholesome activity for the family, it wise also to reduce this common practice to once a month so as to save for gas expenses. A quiet time together at home, watching a movie on DVD, is fun in another way. And more than that, this is a fine reason to save on gasoline expenses.

When you can walk going to a place prefer walking

Besides being a good exercise for the body-the hear particularly, walking to the store or a neighbor in the next two or three blocks is a good way to save wasteful consumption of gas. If you can walk to your destination, don't hesitate to walk going there.

Use Gas Cards

The use of gas cards to augment the ever-rising gas prices has been increasing like wild fire. Rebates of up to 5% are earned every time gas cards are used to purchase gas. These rebates are then accumulated in rewards points and usually converted into cash backs. The good thing with gas cards is you get a chance to earn double rewards. The cash backs, if used to purchase gas, also earn rebates.

Gas Rebate Credit Cards 101

By John F Smith

There are several types of gas cards available and one of them is gas rebate credit cards. It is called a rebate card because you earn rebates every time the card is used for gas purchases. You can earn as much as 5% on gas purchases during regular period or 10% rebates during introductory periods.

However, you do not usually earn these rebates upfront. These rebates are accumulated on the form of rewards points and can be redeemed depending on the card policy. Sometimes, points are automatically redeemed after a month via a credit to your card or check/gift card issuance. Other cards may also require that you request rewards points to be redeemed while others require that you reach a certain minimum rewards points limit. The Shell gas card for instance, automatically awards $25 cash backs via gift cards once you reach the said amount.

The credit on the "gas rebate credit card" is simply the method of paying for the card. Your gas payments are on credit and you pay for them after a month. Naturally, you will be charged an annual percentage rate if you maintain a balance on your card. But you do have the option of not maintaining a balance so you get your savings in full. Interests can easily cancel out any savings hat you earn.

The good with gas rebate credit cards is that you earn rewards on cash backs as well. If you get your cash back rewards via a credit to your card and use it to pay for gas purchases, you earn rebates on it too. Also, you get a discount if you use your card to buy the prepaid type. This way, you get two types of savings: one from the purchase and one from using the prepaid card.

Indeed, there are many ways to earn bigger savings in gas rebate credit cards. Don't miss out on this great opportunity.

Ultimate Gas Savings Device

Gas prices have doubled since last year and we all feel a pinch every time we pump gas. And disappontingly, analysts see no possibility of a price roll-back in the near future. Fortunately, there is a way to augment these increases and this is by using gas cards.

Gas cards, otherwise known as gas rebate cards, offer rebates on gas puchases. The Chase BP Card from Visa for instance, offers 5% rebates on BP gas purchases and even higher rates during introductory periods. The rebates that you earn are accumulated and can be redeemed in the form of cash backs which in turn can be used for gas purchases. Gas cards are definitely the ultimate gas savings device!

Pamper Your Feet

Winter is finally over and its time to bare those lovely ankles in sexy strap sandals. However, the long winter may have resulted to dry feet and worse, dry and cracked heels. There is no need to panic though, we gals are never left without nothing to do. You can remedy those dry heels with an at-home foot spa treatment. Try inviting your friends over so you can take turns pampering your feet. Foot spa can be inexpensive and fun at the same time.

But before you go about inviting your friends, you first have to choose a foot spa treatment. It does not have to be anything fancy, just your ordinary set of soak, scrub and cream. A file and pumice stone might come in handy too. If you don't have one yet, I'd recommend Lavande's foot spa set. It comes complete with a foot soak, scrub and cream. It's added bonus is the lavender scent. To all those lavender-crazy like me, I'm sure you'll love this set.

Your at-home foot spa treatment can be done in these three easy steps:

Soak

Soak both your feet in warm water for ten to fifteen minutes. Make sure to pour in the foot soak. Lavande's foot soak gives off a soothing aroma that allows you to sit back and relax. It's a foot spa and aroma therapy in one!

Scrub

Next step is to scrub away those dead skin cells that may have formed due to months of wearing closed shoes. Make sure to scrub every part of your feet specially the sole and heel areas, where dry skin is oftentimes plenty. Rinse often and scrub as needed. For thick dead skin cells, you may opt to use a file and pumice. Just be careful not to scrub too much.

Cream

After scrubbing your feet, massage them while applying the cream. Make sure to apply on every part of your feet as the foot scrub may leave your feet dry. You may also use this cream every night before going to bed, so your feet is always moisturized. Our feet do deserve the same attention our face does!

There you have it, three easy steps for an at-home foot spa. You can follow it up with a pretty nail polish. Then your ready to expose those lovely heels in sexy stiletto strap sandals.

Tip: Have a problem with dry and cracked heels? Try applying petroleum jelly on your heels before going to bed. Wearing socks over them helps too.

Last Minute Summer Shopping

After the long months of work, I finally had the time to head for the beach and grab what was left of the summer days. But before I went out on my bikinis, I had to do some last minute shopping and get my own stash of summer essentials. Here’s what I found.

Eyewear

I found this pair of beige RL sunglasses on e-bay. It looks gorgeous on me and highlights my morena skin. It also covers my whole eye area so I’m sure my eyes get the protection they need.

Sun Block

Don’t be afraid to go out in the sun, just be sure you have sun block!

I’m a Nivea fan so I scouted Nivea’s stall for summer finds. I went for my usual SPF 50 Body Lotion and Face Sun Block Moisturising Cream. I like to play beach volley so my SPF 50 sun block ensures my skin is well protected from the sun's harmful UV rays.

Lip Care

I also found this Nivea Lip Care Sun SPF 25 while I was at the Nivea stall. It promises to be waterproof so I won’t have to retouch every time I go for refreshments. I usually use Nivea Lip Care in rose during non-summer months. For my summer trip though, I’d trade my usual lip gloss with my Sun SPF 25 to get that luscious look on my lips.

After-Sun Cooling Gel

My last stop was at Avon, to get my usual cooling gel. Avon has this Bronze After-Sun Cooling Gel made from aloe vera. I’ve used this before and this definitely helps sooth skin after a day under the sun. This is nice to use after a cool shower. You’d instantly get that soothing effect that you’ll long for after a day under the sun!

Another Milestone

In celebration of yet another milestone in my career as a copywriter, I have decided to share the culture that I, as a writer and an entrepreneur, lives by. It is my aim to guide and inspire copywriters, particularly those who have yet to define themselves in this industry.

The question now then lies in my capacity to give such a statement. I will not pretend to be an expert in this industry. I will tell you however that my copies sell. In this career, I consider the monetary value you receive for your work to be the best measure of your status.

I believe that what sets me apart from my contemporaries, are the values and norms that I live by.

I believe in the product/company I work with.

I write for companies that live the same culture that I live by. Their products or services deliver what they promise and promote good values. Thus, these products or services do not go against the values and norms that I believe in.

I deliver before the deadline.

Delivering before the specified deadline gives the best impression. With this being said, I do not accept contracts which do not give me sufficient time to create quality copies. I take great care in managing my resources. There is simply no excuse for a late delivery or an on-time delivery yet, the copies do not meet up to client’s standards and worse, contains hack-eyed ideas.

However, in this career, rush contracts cannot be avoided. As much as possible I accept contracts that give me sufficient time to write, save for those that I accept from Mark. I do this for the reason that I believe in the culture his company lives by. I pride myself in taking part to achieve a mission of a reputable writing services company.

I maintain good client relations.

Maintaining good relations with clients is one of my top requirements. I go for clients who, I can maintain good relations with. I’d trade good client relations anytime, for a bulky gain from a client who thinks I own a sweat shop.

I believe that this culture I choose to live by together with my mission to create quality copies, has defined me as a copywriter.

I am looking forward to a more successful career as I continue to achieve my mission and live by the norms and values I believe in.

Learn From The Experts - Coca Cola's Marketing Strategies

PHILIPPINES-Last Year, Coca Cola Int. acquired its local operations. A reason behind an acquisition this big could be that [educated guess] Coca Cola was not happy with it's local operations. Several surveys last year stated that Coca Cola's beverage market share was declining and was being grabbed by several "more healthy" drinks such as ready- to- drink tea.

I am always on the lookout for mergers and acquisitions because after such big events, I am sure to witness intensive marketing programs. From these programs, I learn a few important things. So, since Coca Cola's acquisition, I have been a very keen observer of their new marketing strategies.

Last year the company hired a number of account developers. Their goal was apparently to make their products more available at retail. The bulk of sales of Coca Cola products do not come from planned purchasing but rather on instantaneous purchses made at the retail store upon seeing Coca Cola products. What usually happens is that when a person feels thirsty, he/she heads for a store to buy a beverage. Most of the time, they do not have a particular beverage in mind.

A New Target Market

Coca Cola recently released new ad campaigns promoting a Healthy and Active Lifestyle. It stressed out that coke was not the main culprit of several illnesses such as diabetes and obesity. It further stressed out that anything taken in excess can be bad for you. Further, it promoted a healthy and active lifestyle so people can drink any drink they want. Excercise was promoted witht the use of the usual coke's bottle image, taken into the likeness of a person's body[curves]. Also, several FAQ's, such as body fluid intake and absorption, were discussed.

When asked about the issue about their declining market share, they brushed it off with the statement that the market simply wanted more choices.

A New Product for a New Target Market

After the Healthy and Active Lifestyle campaign. Coca Cola introduced a new product: Coke Zero. Its features were zero sugar, zero calories and zero fat.

Those observing Coca Cola's recent marketing strategies were apprehensive about this product. Coca Cola already has two products that were in the market, that, addressed the "more health conscious" market segment. However, just as people were starting to wonder, Coca Cola seems to have an answer for everything. A week after Coke zero was launched, another ad circulated. It showed Coke zero in the usual packaging: 8 oz, 12 oz and the 1 liter bottles.

Coke Light and Diet's inability to capture the "more health conscious" market segment may be that both products were not readily available at retail, at the local stores. It was only available in cans, which is a little higher priced, and in 1.5 PET bottles and, usually not available at the local sari-sari stores.

This time, I could not agree more with Coca Cola's efforts for Coke Zero to capture the "more health conscious" market segment.

Impressive Marketing Strategies

What I like about Coca Cola is that it spends good money for intensive marketing programs. They address every part of marketing: from new product launches, packaging, pricing and advertising. Also, they seem to come up with the most effective advertisements; stressing family values. Last December, they promoted good family values with an ad where an estranged father was invited over for a coke drink stressing that he was still family to their daughter.

Coca Cola also gives equal weigh to sales promotions with effective sales promotions for market intermediaries. They know that advertising is just a part of promotions. Also, they know that promotions is a part of a more bigger picture, a complete set of marketing plan/strategy.

A good marketing strategy addresses every aspect of marketing: product, price, promotion and place. It is best to segment the target market when faced with every marketing decision to give what the consumers want/need-lower price or a new product, and in turn, for the consumers to buy your product. These marketing strategies however, must be constantly updated to address competitor strategies and changing consumer purchasing behavior and product preferences.

Top 5 Benefits of Article Marketing

The primary concerns of a newly-established online business are building credibility and driving site traffic. There are many methods to use: paying for ads, submitting site maps, SEO and article marketing, to mention a few.

Article Marketing is creating original articles about your trade and publishing them online through various article directories. Part of the article is a resource box where author information: name and website link, can be found. Article marketing is a good method to use, whether you provide a product or service. Here are the top five benefits of article marketing.

Establish you an expert on your niche. The articles you submit and publish provide helpful tips about your products or services, allowing you to share knowledge and provide solutions to your readers. This establishes you as an expert on your niche, eventually, building your credibility.

Helps pre-sell the product/service. Before anyone buys a product or avail of a service, they would want to know more about the product/service. They eventually turn to search engines and article directories to read related articles. Since your article is not a sales pitch, your readers are more likely inclined to buy your product or avail of your service, thus pre-selling.

Increase Site Traffic. If you include a teaser on the resource box and or write your content in a way that will make your readers want to know more about your product/service, your readers will visit your site. The more readers you have, which is the case in article directories, the more people will visit your site.

Increase ranking with search engines. Article directories allow publishing of your articles on other websites as long as the whole article including your resource box is unchanged. If you create quality and solid content, your readers would want to share your article by putting it up on their site. The more people use your articles, the more links to your websites there are. Ranking with search engines is determined by the number of quality links to your website.

Article marketing is free. Article directories offer free membership. The only investment you need is time to create your quality and original content.

How To Start A Copywriting Career

Internet copywriting makes a good home-based business. With the growth rate of the web, demand for copywriters will continue to increase.

Typically, copywriters are tasked to promote a website through ads. Also, some are paid to write content for blogs of several small internet-based businesses.

However, internet copywriting is not easy. Yes, you get paid well but there is a price to pay. You have to start right by setting up your credibility. Also, obtaining and handling clients is as important as your writing skills. This entails long hours of studying the internet market, practice writing and getting your name on the internet. You will find that internet copywriting is a whole lot different than the usual media.

So, how do your start an online copywriting career? Here are some tips on how.

First of all, read copies/ads on the internet. Copywriting deals mainly with advertisements. Read ads and find out what makes an effective copy and what doesn’t. Also, copywriters may find themselves creating content or newsletters for websites and blogs for specific or broad trades/topics. Find out which trade you may write for, but eventually, with research you may find yourself writing for any trade.

By reading ads and web content, you may notice the repetition of several words or a phrase of words. These words are called keywords. They key to advertising online is keyword. Search engines use spiders that read only keywords. Study how and where to place keywords that would make the content search engine optimized but still makes it an effective copy.

Secondly, be your own client: write samples. Your samples will make up your portfolio since you do not have any published work yet. Write as many samples of any kind of copies taking care to search engine optimize them. It would be a good idea to own a blog where you can post your samples. There are several free blogs that are user-friendly. Choose one that will be easy for you to maintain.

Another way to fill your portfolio is to do apprentice work for a copywriter. This will be good training ground for you. Eventually, you will know how things work.

The next step is to build your credibility. When you start getting your own clients, they would want to check your credibility. Be sure that they would check you on Google or Yahoo. So, get your name on the internet: promote your name and blog. There are several methods to do this: submitting site feeds and site maps, joining blog directories and article marketing, to mention a few.

Article marketing is a guaranteed way to get your name on the internet. This deals with creating good and original articles and, submitting them to various article directories. Since, you already have a blog with original content; this will just be a copy-paste procedure. Article marketing would not only get your name on the internet but will make you an expert on your niche and may obtain you possible clients.

Finally, get clients. Article marketing would have obtained you clients but it would also be good to know where to get clients on the internet. You can look it up on search engines where, you will be provided with websites that posts freelance projects and or portfolios. These sites offer free membership but paying for a membership would not hurt as the ROI will be far greater. Also, paying members obtain a greater percentage of the projects available.

Start your copywriting career right: work both on your copywriting and client acquisition skills. Copywriting requires a lot of work but can be a lucrative home-based business.

Biometrics in Security Systems

Business establishment admit they are not as protected as they would like to be. With product developments and equipment acquisitions that happen every so often, they are constantly faced with security and safety issues. For this reasons, there is a need to focus efforts on adapting systems that accurately authenticate the identity of their employees/users.

Authentication can be done in three ways. First, by something that the user knows: a password or a specific answer to a question. This is commonly used in e-mail accounts. Secondly, by what the user has: a key. Lastly, by something the user is: a genetic trait, otherwise known as biometric authentication. The first two authentication systems have drawbacks because they can be guessed, reproduced and stolen. In biometrics, these drawbacks are almost eliminated.

Biometrics may or may not be the answer. So, proper evaluation should be done to discern the need to engage in this authentication system. The type of data/equipment being secured must be considered. If the cost of setting up the biometric system is higher than the value of data/equipment being secured, then it is wise to stick to the conventional authentication systems. Also, the type of biometrics must be considered. There are many biometric products on the market, yet, no product is a definite answer. User acceptability, business structural design and security of the system are among the factors to be considered.

Whichever authentication system you choose, make sure evaluation and research must be made. To help you, look up biometric authentication. You will be provided with a list of websites that provide helpful tips on the use of biometric products. Some even provide reviews for the different products available in the market.

Market Segmentation-A Power Tool

A product’s success can be attributed to it’s delivery to the right market. The right market or your target market is the set of buyers where a product is perceived to have more profit and potential growth. The product’s promotion, price and delivery should be considered within the target market’s preferences.

Selecting the target market and delivery of the product is not a one-step process but a sequence of processes that needs to be done every so often. The first step involves market segmentation. This involves dividing the broad market into segments according to their needs and behaviors. Let us say, hypothetically, that a company is involved in the manufacture of apparel for women-the broad market. Since apparel style preferences of women differ, it is decided to segment the market by classes that have purchasing power-college students, working women and housewives. After research and profiling, it is proven that the college students segment is less broad and where competition is lesser. So, it is perceived that the college student segment has more potential in profit and is established to be the target market.

The next step involves deciding on the quality and price of the apparel. The research and profiling showed that the target market is sensitive to price and quality. Two segments-one that requires cheap apparel and the other, quality apparel, were formed. With this, it is recommended to product development to produce two kinds of apparel, cheap apparel and a higher-priced quality apparel.

The last step involves advertising and distribution. Again, research showed that the target market has different shopping behaviors. The market was divided into segments-mall/store shopping and online shopping, this point according to shopping behavior. Percentage for online shopping showed to be material so, online advertising and distribution were done aside from the traditional mall distribution and vicinity advertising.

Segmentation is a powerful tool if used correctly. However, it does not follow that each segment of the target market must be addressed. This should depend on the company’s resources and goals/visions. Moreover, segmentation and target marketing should not be done as a one time process because of changing needs and competitor strategies. It should be done often to adapt to these changes for the product to obtain a large share in its target market.

BAKING101

Does taking a bite of your favorite gives you the desire to bake your own? Many think that baking is a hard task to do. The fact is, you can learn to bake on your own without going to any culinary schools. One way to learn is through the internet. There are a lot of tutorial and tips available online. Some websites even provide video and voice recordings.

Baking can be fun and the best part is afterwards, tasting and sharing the finished pastry with family and friends. All you really need are the right tools, a good recipe book and a patient and hard working self. So, before you start baking, here are a few important things that I consider the must-haves in baking:

Baking Tools

Measuring Spoons. Measuring spoons are used to measure ingredients, usually leavening agents and flavorings, in small amounts. They come in different measurements: 1 tablespoon, ½ tablespoon, 1 teaspoon, ½ teaspoon, ¼ teaspoon, and 1/8 teaspoon. There are spoons made out of plastic and metal, I recommend buying plastic-made since they are not hard to clean and maintain, and do not rust. Buy two sets because a recipe often calls for measuring two kinds of ingredients, wet and dry. It would allow you to measure quickly without having to clean the spoon.

Measuring Cups. There are two kinds of measuring cups: dry measuring cups and a liquid measuring cup. You would need to buy the two kinds since dry measuring cups do not measure liquid accurately, and in baking accuracy is most important.

A liquid measuring cup is shaped like a pitcher with an easy-grip handle. It has measurement labels on the side, usually in ounces and cups, and is transparent so you can see the liquid through. It is either made out of glass or plastic, I recommend buying plastic since it will not break.

Dry measuring cups come in different measurements: 1 cup, ½ cup, 1/3 cup, ¼ cup and 1/8 cup. Buy only a set of plastic measuring cups, for the same reason of easy maintenance.

A wire whisk will be used to mix your batter. When buying a wire whisk, look for one with sturdy wires and with a handle that you can easily grip.

When I started baking, I only bought one small-handled wire whisk. One time, I was mixing a batter for two cake recipes, the wire whisk would not reach the bottom of the mixing bowl without my hand dipping into the batter. So buy a long-handled and short-handled wire whisk.

I also consider an electric mixer an important baking equipment. However, if this is your first time in baking, I would not recommend buying an electric mixer for two reasons. First, it is expensive and you might not want to continue baking. It would just add up to the kitchen appliances that you do not use and need. Second, mixing by hand would allow you to observe what happens to your batter as you add ingredient after the next.

Spatula. A rubber spatula can be very handy to have around. I use mine when I cream my butter and sugar, and in scraping batter from the mixing bowl.

Sifter. A recipe would either ask for pre-sifted flour or ask you to sift dry ingredients together. There are other sifting methods you can use, but as a beginner, a sifter is a good tool to have.

You may already have mixing bowls in your kitchen but if you don’t, I recommend buying glossy, smooth-surfaced, stainless aluminum-made in three different sizes.

You can’t bake without baking pans. If you are a beginner, I recommend buying only two kinds, a 9” round and a 9” square pan. Buy two of each since it would allow you to make layer cakes. When you decide to continue baking, here are other kinds you should have: cookie sheet, 8’ x 12” pan, a bundt pan with a flute tube and muffin trays. Again buy two sets of each.

Baking Ingredients

Since most ingredients are perishable, I usually buy ingredients enough for a certain recipe I would be baking. I always have enough on hand though, to make a cake for emergencies. So, before I give you a list of the ingredients that you will need, below is a sample recipe that I’ll go through with you to decode.
Cake

Ingredients
1 cup (1/2 lb.) butter, softened
1/2 cups sugar
3 large eggs
3 large egg yolks
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 1/4 cups cake flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cups milk

Butter is either salted or unsalted. If a recipe does not stipulate what kind to use, assume unsalted.

Sugar. Buy white sugar that has fine granules. When a recipe asks for brown sugar, use brown and do not substitute with white. White and brown sugar have different glucose content.

Eggs. Practically, every recipe has egg in it. However, there are recipes that would ask for yolk only or both yolk and white but separately. So, follow what is asked. Here's a tip on how to easily separate the yolk from the white: refrigerate the egg for at least thirty minutes.

Vanilla is a kind of flavoring in liquid form. There are also other flavorings that are commonly used. They are: cinnamon, nutmeg and almond extract.

Flour. In this recipe cake flour is used. However, all-purpose flour is commonly used in recipes. There is a difference between the two, so be sure to use what is asked. If a recipe does not stipulate what kind to use, assume it calls for all-purpose flour.

Baking powder is a kind of leavening agent and is commonly used in recipes. There are two others that are commonly used: baking soda and cream of tartar. A recipe may also call for two kinds of leavening agent.

Salt is used in a small quantity only, I do not know the correct explanation why it is used. I only know that it is important. The sweetness of the pastry doesn't come out quite right wihtout it. I use salt that has fine granules.

Milk. Always assume that recipes call for milk in liquid form unless it says so otherwise.

Baking Jargon

Now that you know what to buy, you can now start making your own cake. But before that, you would need to know the meaning of a few confusing words that you might come across in the "procedure" section of a recipe. So, below is the procedure part that goes with the above list of ingredients.

Preheat oven to 350°

1. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy and pale yellow. Add eggs, then yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla.

2. In another bowl, sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir about a third of the flour mixture into butter mixture. Stir in half the milk just until blended. Stir in another third of the flour mixture, then remaining milk, followed by remaining flour. Scrape batter equally into two 9-inch round cake pans lined with wax paper and spread level.

3. Bake in oven until a wooden skewer inserted in the center comes out clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool on racks in pans for 10 minutes, then invert cakes onto racks and remove pans. Cool completely before frosting.

Preheat. Preheating is important to attain the needed cooking temperature of a recipe. Baking is all about accurate measurements and the right heat. So, follow the temperature called for.

Cream. Creaming is a procedure done to food to obtain a smooth and creamy consistency, like cream. I do mine with a rubber spatula or a plastic ladle in a back and forth motion, rubbing and scraping butter against the side of the bowl.

Stir. Stir the batter in one direction only, either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

Other miscellaneous items

There are other things that you would need while baking. A skewer-a toothpick would do but there are cake testers available also, towels, aluminum foil, waxed papers, cake holders, cooling racks and plastic storage containers-for storing your ingredients.

Now you are ready to embark on your first baking experience. The only thing missing is a good recipe book and of course your oven. Luckily, there are a lot of websites that will provide you with good recipes and tips. So, start exploring the fun world of baking the e-way!

Note: The above copy is written for those who are acquainted with their own ovens, the hazards and such.

How To Make A Boring Job Interesting

Many may find themselves strapped to a boring job. What's worse is we can't live without it because it's our main bread and butter. This is true not only for wage earners, but to white collar-job holders as well.

How we look at our job affects how we work. If you find it boring you'd be making less an effort doing it and before you know it, even the task of looking for a record would go on the "to do list" for tomorrow, creating backlog after backlog when you could have done it today. Instead of whining about how boring the job is, ever thought of making it more fun and interesting? If you can't change the situation, change you attitude towards it. You can't do this however if you look down on your job. Try looking up to it. Think of ways you can improve and leave your best mark on the job. Here are a few tips on how:

Challenge Your Self. Set a target, not only try to reach it but beat you record as well. Your job may be the most menial job in a world of menial jobs, like the burger flipper. You can make it more challenging by recording how fast you can flip a burger or take an order, then try to beat your record. Before you know it, you have not only enjoyed your job, you have delivered satisfaction to customers by your timely delivery of orders. Or are you the book keeper with lots of figures to tally? You can challenge yourself with how fast you can punch the calculator or number pad without looking at it. You will have done your job at half the time it usually takes, and have time for something else that you enjoy doing.

On a recent season of a reality game show of a race around the world, two teams were up against each other at the airport trying to book their flights. One team who arrived there five minutes later than the other, got on the flight because of how the desk clerk typed her way through it. The other team? They didn't get on the flight: the flight was fully booked. If you are the one behind that desk, you have not only gotten through the menial task of data processing, you have given a team an edge to winning that one million dollars. The day ended with a praise from the team: "Wow!She's fast!"

Improve Your Work FLow/Work Place. Does your work include looking for data that goes a long way as a few months back? You either have to look through a stack of papers or browse through your PC's documents folder. This takes up too much time is a very menial thing to do that you put it off for as long as it takes. You can however shorten the time it takes to find records by creating a database that will make data access faster. Browse through your personal computer's office applications, there is usually a user-friendly database application. If you do not know how to use it, educate yourself. There are a lot of tutorial e-books available online. This may take a few weeks or even months to do and would require a lot of time and work, but doing something is better than brooding about how boring your job is. Creating a database would improve your analytical skills as well. After the database is made, looking for data would be as easy as typing the date of the data your looking for and pressing the ENTER key.

Organizing your workplace may not be as fancy as creating a database. Have you noticed how messy your message board at work is? You keep missing shift schedules beacuse you can't seem to find the right messages. Take it upon yourself to organize it. It may just be a matter of labelling as to General Info, Shift Schedules etc.

Create Competition. If you are bored with your job, chances are, your colleagues are too. Try to create or suggest competion in your work place. Tell your boss that the job is making you bored and is affecting your performance at work. Suggest a reward system, he would be happy to oblige since it would involve the performance of his employees. High performance would mean high production/sales. Rewards may not come in terms of money or compensation. It could be an award for "Best Employee of the Month/Week", "Best Burger Flip Record", "Best Encoder", the list is endless. Competition is competition and there is nothing sweeter than winning. Soon, you and your colleagues will be busy doing the best at your work, forgetting that it was ever boring.

Whatever your job is, show your best side. Leave your mark on it. Think of ways you can improve yourself and the job. By doing so, you improve and acquire skills that may come in handy when you land on your dream job.
